ANNOUNCING CLUB COACH FOR 2009/2010 SEASON
The North Cricket Club would like to formally announce the appointment of Barry James into the Club Coaching role for the 09/10 season. Barry has recently returned to Townsville and to Norths where he played in the 1st XI team in the 79/80 season, some 30 years earlier.
Barry brings a wealth of experience to the club this season having recently retiring from 32 years service in the Australian Army. Barry’s time in the Army saw him coach both the Australian Army and Australian Defence Force Cricket teams during the period 1997 to 2007. For his service he was awarded Life Membership to both associations.
As Defence Coach, Barry took teams to the ARAFURA Games in Darwin in 1999, Singapore and Malaysia in 2000, New Zealand in 2002 and to England in July 2005. The England tour culminated in the UK National Defence carnival against the Royal Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. The Australian Defence team beat all three service teams and then defeated the Combined UK Defence team in the main game of the tour.
During that period he also held the appointments of Assistant Coach to the South Hobart Sandy Bay – Southern Sharks, Grade Cricket Club in Tasmania during the years 1998 – 2000. He also had a stint with Goldcrest Cricket Club in Brisbane during the period 2004-2006.
As a player Barry has achieved success at many levels and has only recently retired from actively playing cricket. Barry completed the Cricket Australia Level Two Coaching Course at the Queensland Cricket Association in 2001.
Barry’s philosophy on cricket success is to establish a strong club foundation off the field, enjoy your cricket but to train like you are participating in a game, be fitter, be as best prepared as you can be and play with an unforgiving nature. The Norths Cricket Club welcomes Barry to the position.
